Our Community Celebrates Individuality
Ann Arbor Learning Community is a school of choice. We are a tuition-free K-8 public charter school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since 1998 we have partnered with families and the community to enable students to grow into responsible, respectful, creative members of society. We encourage and celebrate:
The structure and programs of Ann Arbor Learning Community are designed to provide students personalized attention and better develop the "whole child." Small, flexible classes provide more opportunities for hands-on learning and encourage creativity and out of the box thinking. We are committed to the development of student intellect, curiosity and cooperation with focus on helping students value themselves, their peers, and their community. We pride ourselves in providing extensive involvement with the community and the environment.
Teachers and administrators work in partnership with families to foster a love of learning, self-confidence and a strong sense of responsibility. Programs are customized to meet individual interests, strengths and challenges.
AALC is authorized by Eastern Michigan University.
The charter (contract) between AALC and EMU is available.
"We love AALC. We believe in the philosophy, the caring approach of staff, the strong environmental focus, and the holistic approach to education."
- AALC Parent
At AALC we believe that personalized learning relationships where students learn to take ownership of their learning result in a strong sense of self and lifetime love of learning. We offer a strong core curriculum that is supported with our emphasis on gardening, outdoor, and environmental education.
Ann Arbor Learning Community open its doors in 1998 to serve students in grades K-8. The school began with seventy students and our first rented space was on Packard Road. In 2005, we moved into our current space on Research Park Dr.
