Happy New Year!
Language Arts: Students are using learning contracts for language arts instruction. The contracts allow students to choose the order in which they complete their work, which fosters a sense of responsibility. Using the contracts better enables me to differentiate instruction and meet with more reading groups each day.
Social Studies: AALC Mosiac Night is scheduled for Thursday, March 18. Our class will focus on family diversity.
Field Trip: Our next field trip is scheduled for Thursday, February 18. We will be going to the Imagination Station in Toledo, Ohio. We will leave AALC at 9 am and return around 3 pm. Chaperones will be needed and greatly appreciated!
Science: We began learning about the three states of matter last week which are solids, liquids, and gasses. We will continue this unit of study through February.
Math: Students in my math group are working on unit 3, which is addition, subtraction, and the number system. Parent letters were sent home on January 4.

PTSO needs your help…Please consider volunteering your time to help with one of these upcoming events – Math & Science Night on Jan. 28th, the talent show on Feb. 6th, or movie night on Feb. 12th.

January 28 —eat at Noodles & Co. fundraiser (earn 25% back for AALC!) and then stop by Math & Science Night at AALC. Volunteers are needed for Math & Science Night. Sign up sheets are in the lobby.
February 6 – Talent Show
Join us for dinner and/or a fabulous showcase of talents from our community! We hope to sell DVDs of the show and are looking for someone who has the capability to copy a lot of DVDs. Also, we need volunteers to help with this event! If you are interested in helping with decorating or food planning, please talk to Miss S. or e-mail her at: sschuetzler@gmail.com. A flyer will be coming home this week with dinner information.
Parents Night Out/Movie Night - February 12th (5 – 8pm)
PTSO is planning another parents’ night out on the Friday night of Valentine's Day weekend. We need volunteers to help supervise students, serve food, and donate snacks for the event. Volunteer and food donation sign up sheets will be posted near the front desk. Thanks in advance for your help.
February 26 and April 9th– fundraisers at Splash Universe – If you aren’t leaving town for winter break, enjoy your "Stay-cation" and have some fun at Splash Universe a fabulous water park in Dundee. The AALC PTSO event is from 11-3, but with your all day swim pass you can stay until 9pm. Please invite your family, friends and neighbors. If you purchase your tickets in advance they cost $20 (a savings of $11.95/ticket). Flyers will be e-mailed out with the all school e-mails. Release forms and payment are due by Wed. Feb. 17th for the Feb. 26th event.
