Ann Arbor Learning Community

History

In 1997, a group of parents and teachers came together with a vision for a new school for their children. The EMU Regents granted their charter and the Ann Arbor Learning Community opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 1998. The new school began with seventy students. The school rented their first site on Packard Road.

In 2000, the school moved to a new facility, where it operated for five years. The school grew to seven classrooms and 115 students, completely filling the available space.

In 2005 the AALC moved to its new location in Research Park. The students and staff finally have a location that they helped to design for the AALC learning program. The larger space will allow the school to grow to about 320 students.
