FALL is approaching!!

Welcome back to the 2011-12 school year! The teachers and staff have been busy preparing for the return of students. It will be a busy year in Room 6.

Curriculum news

Writing: This is our second year working with the Lucy Calkins writing workshop program. Students will learn how to choose writing paper that fits their idea and writing plan. Check out the link below for more information about Lucy Calkins and the EMU Writing Project.

Science: We will begin to the year studying plants and looking at the life cycle of a seed.

Social Studies: Our units will focus on the topic of our Local Community.

SEMIS work: My class thought about the meaning of the word stewardship and found ways to become stewards for water. Here are some projects we were involved in during the 2010-11 school year:

*creek study
*using flip cameras to capture video of our local land and its inhabitants
*preparing for Global Service Youth Day on April 14th-planting trees with two Detroit area high schools
*conducting water experiments and activities to explore this awesome resource
*exploring the notion that we are interconnected to everything in our environment
*Dream Seeding art show
